Rex Ray Rugs

Today we're sharing a kind of rug that is a bit different than usual. These rugs feature designs that are not traditional. Rather than look to the past for inspiration and stick to the precedent set by past hand-woven rugs, these knotted rugs look ahead to the future. They have bold, often irregular patterns and shapes adorning their surfaces. While some might scoff at designs that break the mold, we believe that innovation and fresh designs fit well into the world of finely made rugs.

Kazak Rug Shipment

It's no secret that we love Kazak rugs. We have many in our store, and have blogged about them in the past. That's why we're happy to announce that we have received a new shipment of Kazak rugs. Here are just a select few from our collection.

This Kazak features beautiful, earthy coloring.

This particular Kazak happens to be a runner, meaning that it's ideal for hallways.

Rambunctious Rug Destroyer

Rugs and puppies?
Not always a good combination.
A customer recently brought in this rug for repair, which has been chewed up by their puppy. He had been in his crate, but somehow managed to make his escape. Little Houdini

The rug's binding has sustained major damage on this edge. Those teeth are stronger than you'd think!

Dogs are great pets, but they're well known to tear apart their owners' property, especially when they're puppies like this little guy.
Nevertheless, the rug will be restored to a much better condition through our professional cleaning service

The rug will soon be back to a presentable state.

Romanian Persian Mahal

Recently Main Street Oriental Rugs has acquired this Persian Mahal rug. It has a few very interesting aspects to it that make it stand out from the others in our vast collection of rugs. Measuring at 6'1" by 15'7", this rug has a very unique size. Rugs of this sort of size are referred to as "studio sized." Studio sized rugs are very useful for areas that would work great with a rug, but have an unusual amount of space that would make it otherwise impossible to lay one down.

This particular rug was imported from Romania, though it has a Persian design.

The rug's design itself is floral on a dark field, with a beautiful cream border.

If you have any questions, or are interested in this Oriental Rug, please feel free to contact us.

Oriental Rug Cleaning and Repair

Here at Main Street Oriental Rugs, we often receive rugs that are to be cleaned and repaired by our professional cleaning and repair services. This is important, as fine, handmade rugs must be cleaned very meticulously, or else their delicate beauty will be compromised.

Here are some examples of rugs that we've recently received, and what we must do to fix each one.

This rug's fringe is damaged. It must be overcasted.

The fringe on this rug must be overcasted as well.

This rug is in good shape, but it's time for its regular professional cleaning.

Please check back for the results of each rug's cleaning and repair work.

Antique Kazak Rugs

Kazak rugs are among the more historically and artistically inclined types of rugs that we carry in our store. They're the sort of rugs that you can see featured in museums and the private collections of esteemed collectors. True antique Kazaks have unique designs, which are tribal in nature, due to Kazak's sheer age-- Kazak rugs were among the first types of woven rugs. Placed in the homes of the rich, Kazak rugs have served as a status symbol throughout history. It is only natural that these finely crafted rugs would make their way down through generations until they are kept in modern collections.
