Embargo on Iran Impacts Prices on Persian Rugs

In 2010, President Barack Obama signed into effect the CISADA (Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability, and Divestment Act), which prohibits imported Iranian goods.  Unfortunately, this includes the Persian Rugs that are bought from suppliers in Iran.  One of the many types of rugs that Main Street Oriental Rugs carries is Persian Rugs.  Iran produces the highest quality Persian Rugs and is the main supplier for them, so the lack of trade has caused the price for these rugs to greatly increase.  The last shipment that Main Street Oriental Rugs received was in 2010, shortly before the embargo went into effect.  Our supply is slowly dwindling down as the value and price of Persian Rugs increase.  The new Iran Sanctions that President Obama signed on December 31st, will only increase the price of these rugs as they become increasingly harder to find outside of Iran.
