Cleaning of Antique Russian Rug

Main Street Oriental Rugs recently repaired an Antique Russian Rug.  This rug is from the late 1800s, and it came to us with several holes that needed to be patched.  The repairs took about a month, and it was done by a master weaver who has been in this business for over 50 years.  The repairs have been finished, and here are the before and after pictures:

Repair and Cleaning of Antique Persian Kashan

An Antique Persian Kashan recently came to Main Street Oriental Rugs for cleaning and repair.  The owner's family had brought this rug to the United States in the 1920's.  A large rug, 12ft 5in by 8ft 9in, it has seven borders and an allover pattern with large motifs.  This rug has over 20 jewel tone colors using both organic and man-made dyes.  It is approximately 90 years old, and it is a very rare piece.  This rug came to us with extensive pet stains, a large hole, and a border that looked as if it had been chewed.  Main Street Oriental Rugs has just finished the work on it, which included multiple washes, binding the border, and repairing the hole.  To finish the work it took three months.

Tibetan Rugs

One style of Oriental rugs that Main Street Oriental Rugs carry is Tibetan rugs.  Older Tibetan rugs tended to be on the more simple side, due to a limit of colors and time available to the Tibetan rug weavers.  They mostly used muted colors such as red, yellow, indigo, gray and brown.  However, at the turn of the 20th century, the weavers were able to get more colors and could make much more complex designs.  Chinese influences began making an impact on the weavers as well.  This is a very fine type of rug.  Here are some of the samples that can be found at Main Street Oriental Rugs:
